This folding fan was specially commissioned by IKKOKU from Miyawaki Baisen-an (宮脇賣扇庵), a Kyoto workshop with over two centuries of history.
Miyawaki Baisen-an has previously collaborated with brands such as PORTER YOSHIDA, MOMOTARO JEANS, and JIL SANDER. We are especially grateful that they have created this limited piece for us.
The ribs are made of black bamboo (kurotaki), engraved and filled with silver ink. The fan surface uses Tosa washi paper, with a cloud motif first hand-drawn by a craftsman before being printed. Each fan is then carefully folded and assembled by hand, finished with bukin edging and an original fragrance inspired by musk and blended with citrus notes, creating a subtle and gentle scent.
From paper selection and rib carving to printing and folding, every step follows traditional Kyoto fan-making techniques.
We hope this fan is not only a practical companion for summer, but also a quiet presence in the home — gently infusing a moment of stillness into everyday life.
