These pile boa pants are based on the training pants of the Dutch military.
They are made from pile boa material using thick woolen yarn. The thick count makes it difficult to knit on a regular circular knitting machine, but they are knitted on an old American machine called a Tompkins machine.
While knitting is typically done from top to bottom, the Tompkins machine is characterized by knitting from bottom to top. Like loopwheel knitting, the fabric is slowly formed while incorporating air, creating a sense of volume.
Although the material is thick, a three-needle flat stitch is used to keep the seam as flat as possible. This sewing method also accommodates the elasticity of the boa. The design and silhouette are based on the training pants of the Dutch military. The waist is elastic with shirring, and the hem can be adjusted with a drawcord.
The slightly loose fit allows for easy pairing.
